I have been saying this for a long time and if you have read any of my previous blogs I like to state that in the online world of blogging, video, and content marketing it is all about being “something to someone” vs everything to everyone.” This applies especially to blogging in Real Estate and content marketing. As a Real Estate agent you are tying to market to people that have a home buying or selling need right? That is great…but a home buying and selling need where? What price point? First time home buyer or move up? Short Sale or Equity Sale? Subdivision specific or town/city specific? Why is this so important you ask? Because that is HOW people search online! That is how YOU search online. By blogging in Real Estate hyper-locally it allows you to own and dominate your marketing area.
As the Director of Sales/Marketing for Stewart Title in Northern Virginia/Washington DC, I meet with agents everyday and teach classes regarding Real Estate marketing for not only the future of their business…but the present. One of the topics that comes up in meetings with Realtors is their blog. Blogs used to not be a popular thing in the past but now it is a great way for a Realtor/Lender to convey message(s) to their target audience that brings them not only Value but Social Proof. As I meet with Realtors they tell me that they either (A) Want a blog…Should I get one? (B)Don’t know where to start or “where” to put their blog (C) Have a Blog but don’t know how it helps you. What are the first things that come to mind when I say “Blogging in Real Estate?” You might think UGH! Takes too long! What do I write about? Its just another thing I have to do…I don’t want to! All of these objections are common and it is typically what I hear when I meet with the majority of Real Estate agents in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area. I fully understand their objections because as a busy Real Estate agent there are many things that you have to do on a daily basis to keep your business running, maintain existing clients, and market for NEW business. That is also why I know that one of the best things you can do for your Real Estate business is have a blog on your WordPress Website…and here is why.
